Noelle Weeks. Sideboards. February 13th , 2018.
sideboards are basically cupboards. They can have drawers and doors on or a mix of both. Often, they are associated with the dining room but they can sit well in a living room as well. Many of us have numerous pieces of cutlery or fine china that we get out on special occasions. Where do you store such items? Are they in your kitchen cupboards or even in the loft maybe. Wouldnt it be nicer to store these lovely things in sideboards in your living or dining room? You may actually find you use them more because they are more accessible. sideboards are also sometimes known as buffets, and they were designed to hold all of your dining paraphernalia. We will all be familiar with the period dramas on TV where the servants are standing by an expansive table with a serving platter.
Sideboards and dressers were extremely popular in the 1970s, but lost their appeal in later years. However, they have recently been making a come-back and are now seen as stylish, must-have pieces of furniture for the dining room. A dresser is a tall piece of furniture, which usually has a base which has cupboards or drawers, whilst the top section has shelves where you can display your crockery. A sideboard is a piece of furniture which has drawers, cupboards or compartments in which you can store your tableware, and has a flat surface like a table. However, you can also often buy a matching top unit to place on top of the sideboard, making it look like a dresser.
Sideboards have replaced the traditional cupboards which were used in the olden days. Back then people did not have an ideal place to position their stuff but now things have changed for the better. The sideboards can be employed in either a large or a small room. Their unique design has made these equipments to be accepted everywhere. Most people if not all have one or two sideboards in their houses. This has been made possible by the ideal prices which seek to complement these structures. The prices also depend with a specific sideboard since they are available in different designs. The designs are also meant to accommodate customers needs.
Solid oak is still treasured by woodworkers and furniture buyers alike. Throughout the ages, it has been valued for its strength and beauty, which is why servers made of oak are still popular today. In contrast to oak veneer, solid oak will tend to have a more substantial feel to it if a lighter wood has been used with the veneer. Some of the more exotic or flamboyant looking grains may be more readily available in veneers, however, as they are hard to get and veneering allows a relatively small amount of wood to be usable for visual effects.
Sideboards are usually long and slim, and use a minimal amount of floor space, making it easy to fit them in anywhere! The table tops are ideal for you to place your food before serving, or can act as your bar counter or buffet table when you have social engagements! It can also serve as a place to display your favorite photographs, or aesthetically place a few decorative vases and themed knick knacks. With the ample storage space underneath, a plethora of choices are made available for you to store your crockery and china in the cabinets; silverware and linen in the draws, or perhaps a few cookbooks in the shelves. You even place your wine in the wine racks. The options are endless!
